The Mass Maple Leafs Junior Hockey Club of the Continental Hockey Association and the Minnesota Ice Hawks of the Minnesota Junior Hockey League have announced an affiliation between the two organizations.
The Leafs a Tier 3 Junior B program and the Ice Hawks a Tier 3 Junior A program have been a consistent representatives for their respective leagues at the USA Hockey National tournament. The Ice Hawks from Rochester, MN are led by Head Coach Nick Fatis who have led them to 4 consecutive Bush Cup Championships as well as 5 straight National appearances. The Leafs have won 3 out of 4 years a CHA Playoff Championship and have also had 4 straight National appearances.
The Leafs ands the Hawks besides their winning ways and appearances at Nationals have a few more coincidences as well. Both teams in colors are Red Black and White, they also share an affiliation with Kenai River Brown Bears from the NAHL and both Coach Fatis and Leafs Head Coach Tony DeSilva have been very good friends for about 6 years. Coach DeSilva said, " We have both looked out for each other for years now both Nick and myself figured we should just make it official." Both the Leafs and Ice Hawks have played exhibition games in August during the Leafs preseason Midwest trips over the last few years.
