The Mass Maple Leafs
surpasses record numbers in many categories every year. There is one
category that Maple Leafs founder/owner
Tony DeSilva is really excited
to talk about: the number of player promotions. His program, over the
years,
has rapidly approaching the 150 plateau.
The Leafs program has helped players reach the next level, whether
it has been to Junior A teams, NCAA programs,
AHCA programs, or Minor
Professional Organizations for the last twelve years; and that total
keeps growing. DeSilva was proud
to announce that his program has been
involved with 138 placements thus far. 37 Players have suited up for
Junior A teams.
50 alumni have gone on to play at the NCAA level. 41
players have contibued their careers with ACHA programs,
and 10 have
been fortunate to make it to the pro ranks.
Some of these placements are repeats in several
categories, as they played Junior A, NCAA, and Professional hockey.
Former Leafs goalie
Matt Lopes is one that fits each category. Lopes played for the CD
Selects (EJHL), UMass Boston,
and Gustaphus Adolphus previously. John
Lopes, Matt's dad, sent a letter to the Leafs office after Lopes signed
a contract
with the Mississippi River Kings of the Central Hockey League,
a minor league affiliate of the New York Rangers, and had this to say:
" You
have been instrumental in Matthew's success and I want to thank you."
This is just one of many young men that the Leafs have helped develop
not only as a player, but also as an individual.
This, like many other
success stories over the last 12 years, is what makes all of the time,
money, and effort
that DeSilva has put into his program worth it.
