TEAM DEDICATES PAUL COFFEY TOURNAMENT WIN IN MEMORY OF
FORMER SPONSOR TOM MEDEIROS AND HIS FAMILY


The Mass Maple Leafs left on December 26th in the middle of a NorEaster with 7 inches on the ground
and blizzard conditions. The travel took about 12 hours to Mississauga, Ontario to play in
the 25thAnnual Paul Coffey Tournament. A snow storm nor 6 Canadian teams would stop them as
they went 6-0 in the tournament and dedicated the trophy to the family which they plan on presenting
to the family at a later date.

The Leafs were led by defenseman Kyle Gasior and forward Patrick Avery with both having 11 points
in the tournament. The Leafs had a complete team effort as every player that was suited up had
at least one point. The 6 wins there were different people to contribute in each win..
The tournament victory was the first tournament win in 12 years.

The Leafs took on Toronto Aeros to open the tournament and cruised to a 3-0 win. Boyd Zinger had
the shutout in between the pipes. The next opponent for the undermanned Leafs who were missing 6 starters
including 3 defensemen would be Mississauga Ice Warriors and the Leafs would come up with a 8-3 win
The Leafs then took on the Mississauga North Stars and rolled to a 7-4 win. With that win they
assured themselves a spot in the semifinals. The last game of the preliminaries was a 3-2 win
over the Leaside Kings. This win was highlighted with some very crucial saves to preserve the win by Zinger.

The Leafs would take on the host team Mississauga Jets in the semifinals. The Jets with 9 skaters
dominated the Leafs for 2 periods and the Leafs walked into the locker room down 3-1.
The Leafs were reminded about the mission they had set forth and why they were here to win
for the Medeiros family and responded with 5 unanswered goals in the 3rd period to ensure a berth
into the finals with a 6-3 win.

The Leafs would be in their 2nd Coffey final in 6 years would take on the also 5-0 Toronto East Enders.
The game was filled with fast paced and furious back and forth action. Neither team wanted
to back down and tried to capitalize on any opportunity that came to fruition. The teams exchanged
trading goals throughout the whole game with no team ever having more than a 1 goal lead throughout.
The Leafs got the tournament clinching goal on an a patented Gasior end to end rush where Enders goalie
made the initial save and the rebound came out in front with Gasior following up his rebound
with a diving swipe of the puck for the game winner.

The Leafs tournament roster consisted of goalies Joseph Lynch, Parker Bonis, and Boyd Zinger.
The Leafs defensemen were Kyle Gasior, Emilio Botelho, Corey Fossa, Drew August, Andrew Pearsall.
The forwards were Brad McGovern, Kurtis Garcia, Demetruis Polk, Jarred Mitrano, Nate Margets,
Andrew Mathieu, Ryan Merz, CJ Cordiero, Benny Brouillard, Patrick Avery, Andrew Sturtz and Cody Teijeira.
