MASS MAPLE LEAFS AND CHA MAKE SOME HISTORY >
The Mass Maple leafs? CHA? For last decade both have been known as the other options in
Juniors compared to the MET Empire EJ and AJ. Well for the Mass Maple Leafs for the last 9
years they have thrived on being the “other” option and have been successful in every league
they have played which includes the now defunct Interstate Junior Hockey League, the Empire
League and of course the CHA.
Well both the Leafs and CHA want to announce and recognize Markus Makinen for making the
NAHL Alexandria Blizzard for the 2007-08 season. The Leafs forward an 88, the 5’9 165 Finnish
native who finished with 78 points for the Leafs last season. Makinen was not only named the
rookie of the year for the Leafs last season but was also recognized by the CHA as player of the
month for the month of March. Makinen’s outstanding playoff performances earned him that
honor.
Makinen becomes the 18th player from this past season’s Maple Leafs teams to move onto prep
college and Junior A. Makinen also becomes the 3rd player from this past season team to make
a Junior A team. With this placement, the Leafs have placed a player in the AJ, EJ, and NAHL
this season. Makinen becomes the 28th player in Leafs history to move onto Junior A in the
Leafs 9 year history. He also becomes the 99th player to move to Junior A or college ranks in
the 9 year history.
So for the last nine years, the Leafs and CHA aren’t doing too bad as the “other” option to
Juniors on the East Coast.
