MASS MAPLE LEAFS BATTLE HARD AND DOMINATE AT TIMES BUT THAT STILL ISN'T ENOUGH
The Mass Maple Leafs Junior B team dominated all of the first periods in all three of their preliminary round games versus Pittsburgh Junior Penguins, New Jersey Titans and Central Penn Panthers. The Leafs had 1st period domination of puck control of cycling the puck deep in their opponent’s zone. This constant pressure ended up creating shots from their points however the Leafs were only able to score 7 goals in 3 games. The Leafs averaged a 5 plus goal game average throughout their 89 game seasons.
Throughout the National tournament the Leafs would continue to battle through adversity as they have all season but was only able to muster a hard fought come from behind tie with the Jersey Titans 5-5. The Leafs lost to the Penguins 4-0 despite out shooting them but several defensive lapses cost the Leafs the victory. The Leafs other lost was to finalist Panthers who they held a lead 2-1 with 2 minutes remaining in the 2nd period. This was until the Leafs were whistled in the last 22 minutes of the game for over 36 minutes of infractions compared to the Panthers six minutes. The Panthers special teams then took over the game and iced the game for the Panthers 6-2.
The Leafs were led by Nash Winters with 4 goals and an assist to bring his National appearances with 16 points in 8 games, Ronnie Paiva with 4 assists.
The Leafs battled all season to get a chance to go to Nationals and that was half the battle. The other half was trying to prove we belonged.
