LEAFS PREPARE TO MAKE ANNUAL MIDWEST TRIP
The Mass Maple Leafs are prepared for their annul Midwest trip to start out their season. This
years trips will take the Leafs to Buffalo, NY, Detroit, MI and 4 cities in Minnesota including the two
cities of last years National representatives of the Tier 3 Jr A Minnesota Ice Hawks and Minnesota
Owls.
The Leafs start their trip by playing a scrimmage game in Buffalo versus the Empire entry Buffalo
Stars. Following the game, they will travel to Farmington Hills, Michigan. They will then participate in
the Motor City Chiefs Showcase. The four games in the showcase will pit them versus Pittsburgh
Penguins of the Empire League, Pittsburgh Penguins of the CHA, and two entries from the Great
Lakes League Erie and the Mountain Cats. The bus then moves towards the state of Minnesota.
In Minnesota, there will be four members of the Minnesota Junior Hockey League awaiting the road
weary Leafs. The four members are the Minnesota Ice Hawks, Minnesota Owls, Minnesota
Northern Lights and the Hudson Crusaders. This will be a great test for the Leafs playing two
teams that appeared at the Tier 3 Jr A Nationals as well as two teams that are to be considered in
the MNJHL title hunt.
They will conclude their trip where they started and participate in the Buffalo Stars Labor Day
Tournament. The teams on tap for this tournament are the Penguins from the CHA, Stars from the
Empire and the Troy Eagles of the Metropolitan Junior Hockey League.
The trip will consist of 3800 miles, 10 days, 13 games and some team bonding on being in a bus
for over 60+ hours during this trip. The Leafs are eager to make this trip to see where they fit in the
junior hockey world as they get to play teams in all kinds of leagues at all levels. Leafs Coach Tony
DeSilva stated, “:We were at first disappointed that we could not play any CSHL teams ( League
passed a rule that their teams could only play other Tier 3 Jr A teams and no one below them) but
the MNJHL teams stepped up to the plate to make this trip possible.” He went onto to say ” The last
two years playing the CSHL teams were a great experience for my players its unfortunate that some
people put politics in front of the kids. It has been very competitive tournament and gave many
players an opportunity to play at a higher level and be recognized by higher level coaches. Mr.
Lullove puts on a great showcase and a great weekend so we are looking forward to it. “
Details of the trip will be posted on the Leafs website www.massmapleleafs.com
